This will be a huge improvement in the bicycle transportation and
recreation network in Dane County. For many people, getting from downtown
to McFarland, or anywhere on the east side of Lake Waubesa, is either
unpleasant or unsafe. Yes, there is a path along Hwy 51/Stoughton Rd that
takes you under the Beltline, but many people are simply not comfortable
riding across highway entrance/exit ramps and along 51 and Broadway.

In addition, this will significantly shorten the distance one needs to ride
to get between downtown and McFarland. I predict both a significant
increase in bike commuters to downtown and campus and many more
recreational riders frequenting the restaurants and other attractions of
McFarland.
