I recently noticed two problems using the exterior elevator at Monona Terrace, aka, the "bike elevator." I wrote to the Gregg McManners, Monona Terrace Executive Director, and he responded promptly with a promise to fix them. (See below if you are curious if they are the same problems you have noticed.)
He also asked that I pass on contact info so others can report problems. He said that many times users notice problems before the staff does, so they appreciate a report. The easiest way to report a problem is via the email address, [email protected] That email goes to their administrative offices and gets disseminated from there. You can also email Gregg directly at [email protected] In case anyone else noticed the same problems, here's what I reported: 1. On the 4th floor, the button to open the door to the elevator area doesn't work on the outside, i.e. when you are standing on the parking ramp side. We bicyclists can reach over and open the door, but I'm sure it is a bigger problem for someone in a wheelchair. 2. When you enter the elevator on the lake level and face forward, i.e. south, the 4th floor button doesn't work in the elevator. If you are facing north -- behind you, if you entered on the lake level -- it works fine, but again, it is a problem for someone in a wheelchair to turn around. Also, if there is more than one person with a bike, reaching behind to press the button can be a bit of a stretch. I have heard through the grapevine that this elevator has frequent problems. So, now you know how to report them.
