A reminder that if you want to vote before Election Day, you need to do it by 7 PM Friday. (All links below is for City of Madison voters. For the official state website--although not all that user-friendly--go to myvote.wi.gov
I know many people like the tradition of going to the polls with everyone else in the neighborhood, and some polling places also have food drives, bake sales, or other activities. But below are 10 reasons to vote early: - You won't forget to vote. (Yeah, hard to believe with all the phone calls, TV ads, media attention, etc., but some people do forget.) - If the weather is nasty on Tuesday, you won't be tempted to skip voting, thinking your vote isn't that important. - You won't skip voting because you are busy that day. - You won't feel guilty about not voting because you had a family emergency or you got sick on election day. - You are already downtown for lunch, dinner, work, or coffee with friends, and the Clerk's office <http://www.cityofmadison.com/clerk/> is right there, even closer than your polling place. (It's in the City-County Bldg, if you've never been there.) - You can help the candidate or campaign of your choice with voter turn-out. (I'm sure you all can find the appropriate campaign office to volunteer.) - You can help drive people to their polling place with a campaign, non-profit, neighborhood group, or faith community. - You can be a poll worker <http://www.cityofmadison.com/election/pollWorkers/apply.cfm>. I highly urge people to do this, it is both very rewarding and very educational. Both morning and afternoon shifts are available, if you don't want to commit to the whole day. (There is either on-line or in-person training, so please don't wait until the last minute.) - You can be smug about voting early and wear a sticker telling people you already did your civic duty. - Because you can. (That option seems to be in peril of late.) If you haven't already made up your mind or want information on candidates or issues not getting millions of dollars in funding and running constant TV ads, information can be found here on the Madison City Clerk's website <http://www.cityofmadison.com/election/>. The Clerk's office is open 8 am - 7 pm today, tomorrow, and Friday. After that, please make sure you go to the polls. We all know that this will be a close election, and there are also other issues on the ballot besides Governor and AG, so please, everyone vote.
