Hi Herald, thanks for the question. The MPO does a long range transportation plan every 5 years which touches all modes: walking, biking, transit, driving, air, rail, etc, which is what I was referring to. It doesn’t go into a lot of detail however, so we’re doing the bike plan to get into the details more. You can see the long range transportation plan here: http://www.madisonareampo.org/planning/regionalplan.cfm. The old bike plan was done 15 years ago and now is out of date.
The character limit on the interactive web site is 100. You can keep typing once you get to the end of the line, but eventually it will cut you off. If you have more to say I’d rather have you use the general comment form: http://form.jotform.us/form/51034630078145. The interactive map tool is a little clunky and buggy, so let me know if you have any problems. I'm a little bit confused about the time horizon for this. On the website: "The plan will update the 2000 Bicycle Transportation Plan for the Madison Area and Dane County and bikeway system plan included in the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan Update. Bicyclist riding on downtown path The planning horizon for the Bicycle Transportation Plan is 2050 and the focus is on bicycling for transportation purposes." So we already do have a plan in place for the time up to 2035 and this effort is for the time after that, assuming that everything in the 2035 plan is actually going to be implemented? Also a comment about the interactive map: If possible, could you increase the character limit for the comment field? As it is right now, it's hard to provide meaningful input. Best, Harald. We are coordinating with the City of Madison’s Madison in Motion transportation master plan as well as staff and bicyclists on our bike plan committees, including several regular Bikies participants. We have a website<http://www.madisonareampo.org/planning/BikePlan.cfm> up that has the draft policy recommendations, maps, and other materials. Please share so that people can provide input and connect with us if they are interested. There is a comment form<http://form.jotform.us/form/51034630078145> as well as an interactive map<http://cityofmadison.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=94ac8d2c1fb5425b83aa296ce42d22d7> for seeing the data and providing location-specific comments. We will be drafting a plan report in the upcoming months.
