DNR has extended the deadline to comment on its draft guidance for
Motorized Access to DNR properties. (I had previously commented in
opposition to motorized recreational use.) Our state should not be in the
business of promoting fossil fuel burning for recreational enjoyment as
doing so only adds to the long term buildup of greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere, now causing ocean levels to rise 10 feet by the end of this
century!

Subject: Motorized Access on Department Roads
To:

 Hello,

I wanted to thank you for commenting on the Department of Natural
Resources’ draft guidance for Motorized Access on Department Roads. Your
comments have been recorded and will be used to develop the guidance. The
public comment period regarding draft guidance for evaluating motorized use
on department roads has * been extended through July 31*.

Please note that the department is not currently seeking comments regarding
property-specific roads or those in favor or opposition to motorized use on
certain properties. Rather, comments should directly address draft guidance
found at this link: draft guidance
<http://dnr.wi.gov/news/input/documents/guidance/RoadGuidance.pdf>. These
comments will help determine the criteria and decision making processes
used to evaluate roads on department property.

Current draft guidance is the result of statute finalized within the
2013-15 state budget. After program guidance is finalized through this
public input opportunity, additional public input at a future date will
gather feedback for each property where motorized access is evaluated. Road
designations will be considered a master plan change and will be open for
public comment and will require Natural Resources Board approval. After a
property has been evaluated, maps will designate which roads are open to
the public for motorized use and will determine when each road is open or
closed for such use.

To provide feedback, visit the department website, dnr.wi.gov, and search
keywords "proposed DNR program guidance

Those interested in receiving email updates regarding the motorized access
planning project can sign up to receive email messages regarding property
info and other information. Visit dnr.wi.gov, select the email icon near
the bottom of the page for "subscribe for updates for DNR topics
<https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/WIDNR/subscriber/new>," then
follow the prompts and select "motorized road access planning," found
within the property master planning list.

For more information regarding motorized road access on department-owned
lands, search keywords "motorized road access
