All the best to Gregg on recovering his bike! For the rest of us, a reminder to register your bike. Registration documents your bike's serial number and establishes your proof of ownership - two key facts needed to reunite you with your stolen bike, if it is recovered.
Those of us who live in municipalities with bicycle registration should look into that. The Wisconsin Bike Fed recommends the free Stolen Bike Listing <http://wisconsinbikefed.org/stolen-bikes/> service on its website. ( http://wisconsinbikefed.org/stolen-bikes/) This is a free online registration of your bike in a national database. (You can proactively register your non-stolen bike, not just report a theft.) The service is powered by BikeIndex.org, and you will be prompted to create a free BikeIndex account.
