Rails to Trails (RTC) has not, historically, been active in the state, but RTC would like to change this. Their president, Kieth Laughlin, visited our area twice this year and have a major project in the works - what the call the "Route of the Badger", which is centered on Burlington. Burlington, as it turns out, is the hub of several abandoned rail lines, which connect the city to Elkhorn to the west, Racine to the east and Milwaukee to the northwest. For the last couple of years, they have been working with the city of Burlington to facilitate connecting these trails in a coherent way. As the rail line approaches Racine, it could be a very nice connection of housing in the city to industrial companies west of town. Dave Cieslewicz join us at RTC's recent Trailblazer tour of trails in Southeast Wisconsin.

I love both of the organizations, and both love our state.
