My neighbor had his bike stolen awhile back and is now looking to replace
it. he posted on our neighborhood listserv a plea for an old road bike. I
thought someone on this list might have something in the garage or basement
that might fit his needs/preferences.

I've given up on recovering my recently stolen bike and am looking for a
replacement. I've been watching Craigslist for something that I might be
able to use, but haven't quite found it. I'm sure something will pop up if
I'm patient and can wait awhile. In the meantime, I thought it can't hurt
to check with my neighbors.

Ideally, I'd like your older '70s road bike that you no longer use and might
be collecting dust in your garage, basement or attic.

I'm 6'1", so I'd like the seat tube length to be around 56 cm or 23". This
is the (mostly) vertical tube on the bike and the measurement is from the
center of the bottom bracket to the top of the tube. I can go a little on
the smaller side, but I don't want a big road bike because it will be used
for tooling around town, not long distance riding.

I'm looking for a bike from one of the classic bike manufacturers of the
era, like Motobecane, Peugeot, Raleigh, Miyata, Nishiki, Fuji, Bridgestone,
etc. (maybe even some obscure Italian bike like Basso, Guerciotti, Cinelli,
or Colnago - all of which I can't afford). I like the ones that have
high-quality steel tubing like Reynolds (753 or 531), Tange, Ishiwata or
Columbus. A USA made Trek with Columbus tubing would be really nice.

And... I have a pretty limited budget, so I probably can't afford your
beautiful pristine old racing bike (like the Italians listed above).

Thanks,
Gregg Plummer
