Folks - I did a cut-and-paste below from a newsletter I got from the DNR.
Things might be a bit weird in the formatting, so here's the website:
http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/trails/bikeways.html

The short version is that there will be another open house on Sept 22 at
the Madison Senior Center for the DNR/DOT/Bike Fed project to identify
important bikeways in the state: corridors to get people around and across
the state.

There is also a wikimaps site
<http://wikimapping.net/wikimap/WI_Bikeways2.html> where you can make
comments. It is open until Oct 15.

More info on all this below.

Wisconsin Bikeways ProjectSecond round of open houses set for September 22
- October 6

Members of the public will have an opportunity to review and comment on
proposed long-distance bicycle routes in Wisconsin at a series of upcoming
open house meetings.

The Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources and Transportation and the
Wisconsin Bike Fed began the Bikeways Project earlier this year to identify
and map a network of bikeways in the state.

The Bikeways Project has evaluated existing roadway and trail systems
to determine priority bikeway routes across Wisconsin that will
connect into the U.S. Bike Route System
<http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/us-bicycle-route-system/>,
a network of long-distance interstate bicycle routes (U.S. Bicycle Routes
or USBRs) across the country linking urban, suburban and rural areas
through a variety of bicycling facilities. The Project recognizes the role
that intrastate routes have as regional connectors between the interstate
routes and there are a series of draft intrastate bikeway routes, in
addition to the USBRs, on which attendees can comment.

Earlier this year, a first round of public feedback allowed for review of,
and comment on, proposed route corridors and route selection criteria.

More than 80 people contributed to identifying bikeways across the state in
a series of open house meetings in May and June, and another 360 comments
were received through the online Wisconsin Bikeways Project Wikimap that
was available from May 21 through June 30.

Those contributing comments identified routes they currently use for
bicycling or would like to use, as well as areas that are barriers to
bicycling or bicycling destinations. Participants identified routes with
low traffic, good scenery and good pavement quality among the highest
reasons routes were "good to ride."

Some of the barriers to good bike routes identified were challenging
intersections or freeway interchanges and trail conditions.

Over the summer, the public feedback was reviewed and taken into account as
potential routes were drafted, further investigated and studied.

The focus of the upcoming round of public feedback is soliciting public
comment on what have been selected as the best candidate routes within the
identified corridors.

At the open houses, attendees will have an opportunity to view maps of the
proposed bikeway routes, leave written comments and ask questions of
representatives from the project team organizations. There will be no
formal presentation, so attendees may come and go as schedules allow. All
of the open houses will be held from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. and are at the same
location as the first round of open houses, with the exception of the
Milwaukee location, which will be held at the Milwaukee Central Public
Library and will run from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. due to location restrictions.

Open houses will be held:

   - *September 22, Madison* - Madison Senior Center, 330 West Mifflin
   Street
   - *September 29, Appleton* - (Grand Chute), Grand Chute Town Hall,
Community & Board Rooms, 1900 Grand Chute Boulevard
   - *September 30, Eau Claire* - Mayo Health Systems of Eau Claire (Luther
   Campus Clinic), 1400 Bellinger Street
   - *October 1, Wausau* - Northcentral Tech College, 1000 West Campus Drive
   - *October 6, Milwaukee* - Milwaukee Central Public Library, 814 W.
   Wisconsin Street

Bikeways Project Wikimap is live through October 15

In addition to the open houses, a Wisconsin Bikeways Project Wikimap will
be available from September 15 -October 15, 2015. The Wikimap is an online
interactive mapping tool that allows users to view and draw & comment on
the proposed routes, add comments about their entries, and view feedback
that others have left.

Here <http://wikimapping.net/wikimap/WI_Bikeways2.html> is a link to the
Bikeways Project Wikimap. This link is also posted on the Bikeways Project web
page <http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/trails/bikeways.html>.

At a glance...

The focus of these open houses is on gathering feedback on draft state and
federal (USBRs) bicycle routes that will cross the state. Route selection
methodologies included factors such as roadway or trail conditions,
available services (food, lodging, bike shops), directness and grade
(steepness).

More information is available on the Bikeways Project web page

2015 press release <http://dnr.wi.gov/news/Weekly/article/?id=3381>.

What is a bikeway?A bikeway is a road, street or path that is specifically
designated for bicycle travel, may be designed for bicycle travel and may
be shared with other modes of transportation or recreation. Examples of
bikeways, including photos, are listed in the project FAQ
<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/trails/bikeways_faq.html>. Did you know?A
primary goal of the Bikeways Project is to facilitate long-distance bicycle
travel in Wisconsin by identifying routes for state and federal designation.
