I am afraid that I am not able to provide you with a strace, as I couldn't get 
strace-4.4 to compile on the mail server (RH 8.0). I rarely venture outside 
KDevelop, so I don't know why it bailed out. Perhaps I downloaded the the 
wrong version?  Anyway, I can have another go if necessary. Last time I had 
problems with SSL I bought a book. I seems I will have to read it as 
well.....
