Found the misstake: bincimap in /var/opt/log was owned by root. When I set
booth owner and group to noboby on bincimap in /var/opt/log the logs duely
appear.

While looking through some old messages, however, in
[bincimap] Re: Fwd: Re: [binc] Server goes AWOL

the phrase

"Does the /var/log/bincimap directory exist and is it owned by multilog?"

seems to imply that /var/log/bincimap should be owned by multilog.
I don't event have a user "multilog". Multilog or nobody, perhaps it doesn't
matter? Anyway, I would be interesting to have your opinion(s) on this?

I have modified my bincimap configuration to make it more djb'ish, which means that logging is done by a separate user and I use "multilog" as the user for all multilog processes (i.e. in every /service/*/log/run). My run file looks like:
exec 2>&1
exec setuidgid multilog multilog t ./main
All my multilog run files look like this.

Your comments caused me to look more closely at the default configuration and it looks like the multilog logging process is run by root in the default configuration. (My preference is to minimize the number of processes owned by root) If you have a default configuration, how come multilog is running as "nobody"?

I presume that this issue is independent of vpopmail?

Correct.

So now I have got logs, where:

Warning: unable to enter jail path "/opt/bincimap/bin"
and
Unprivileged stub shutting down

bugs me a bit. In /etc/opt/bincimap/bincimap.conf I have keept the original
Security {
jail path = / "/opt/bincimap/bin",
jail user = "nobody",
jail group = "nobody"
}

Any ideas?

How was svscanboot invoked? Who owns the svcan process on your system? Is it "nobody"? It should be "root".
