Check out http://lifewithbincimap.org/ and click InstallingBincIMAP, at the bottom of that page there are two guides to set up a CA with which you can create certificates for both Binc and users. Client certificates aren't required, but can be used to increase security further. Both of the guides also describe how to configure Binc to use the server certificate.
