It's may well be Binc who's at fault here. Please try Peter's suggestion
and see if the openssl tool can give you some ideas of what's going on.

In the mean time I'll test this myself too.

By the way - are client certificates necessary for you, or did you try
setting it up because of Binc's "verify peer" option? I've considered the 
idea of removing this feature in 1.3.
