Well it should work now... try doing this to get you up and running..
inside your main Maildir ... do a maildirmake .sent (with the dot) This will make the appropriate sent dir for your mail client (forgot the name of what client you are using)..
If that does not work, then go into your email client, and as Andy has suggested, and find the section where you can hand enter the IMAP namespace (many clients allow for this)... and put in INBOX/ or try INBOX. (MAILBOX with the dot) This in effect tells your email client what to look for regarding your folder layout.

I don't remember, it has been a long time since I made that error... I don't think it gave me an error at the time, just did not work properly until set correctly.
