Intro: I am a consultant who is still transitioning from a Widnows
background to Linux. I have converted my desktop OS to SuSE9.1 and am
working on building my mail/web farm. This is attempt number five. I
have always made it so far as to get qMail patched and configured but
always fall apart on the last piece of getting pop/iMAP working. I have
poked around on the list archives a few days to see the 'lay of the
land' and find a lot of the qMail users here also. I have posted their
before with limited results and I believe it is because qMail was never
realy my issue but the POP/IMAP add-ons required to make my mail
solution work.

Goal: Two servers hosting a few small domains where the users are remote
and point to these servers for mail (aka can not be open relay and so
will host some form of SMTP auth or POP-before-SMTP) or now the option I
am looking to try with this group which is the authentication native to
IMAP (vs POP).

Hardware/NOS: PIII 256MB RAM mirrored 10GB HDDs running FedoraCore 2
fully patched.

Issue: Downloaded tarball and attempted to compile from source...fails
with error

I know I have gcc loaded and pathing straight as I did all the setup of
qMail,checkpasswrd,daemontools, and ucspi-tcp from source.

googling yielded various attempts to set environment variables for c to
refer to gcc but this does not work (or I am doing it wrong).

Second attempt after source was to try the latest rpm package. The
latest version on http://bincimap.org/dl/RPMS/i386/1.2/ was 1.2.9 for
SuSe 8.2 which complains about missing libcrypto, libssl (which are both
installed)...

ok third try: latest version for redhat... which happens to be
bincimap-1.2.4-1RH9-dynamic.i386.rpm. A little old but a good start. Did
the install and things seemed to go well. Now back to
"LifeWithBincIMAP". Downloaded the /var/qmail/control/bincimap.conf
update copied it over. Downloaded and copied over
the /var/qmail/bin/qmailctl updated file.
Go to next step of "ln
-s /var/qmail/supervise/bincimap /service/bincimap" but this directory
does not exist. (Thought that the RPM would have constructed all this)

This also does not apear to be the only directory structure that the RPM
did not build. Here is the current status
