Right. I just tried the same thing and plain text login did not work
with bincimapd started without --ssl but after successful STARTTLS.
Is there a missing test somewhere?

I hope you don't use that RSA key for anything important. When done
testing I suggest you revoke the certificate and generate a new key.

Other than showing your key, the logs aren't very informative. All I
note is a failed semget() followed by bincimap-up exit(), rather than
an execve() of the checkpassword program.. :(
