Neither of them, although they're a good read. Now, I'm starting to
doubt myself, but I really remember a document which contests reason for
going with Maildir++.
If it was not the above email message, I am not sure of the document to
which you are referring.
The question that the document answers (IIRC) is why I shouldn't care
too much about Maildir++ if it's a new server. The box this will be
running on uses qmail/vpopmail and I would like to know the
advantages/disadvantages of either depot type with regards to my setup,
and what modifications the setup would need.
The primary advantages of IMAPdir are that IMAP users can create folders
that are siblings to INBOX and shell/mutt/etc users can navigate more
easily through the mail folders.
The primary advantages of Maildir++ are compatibility with Courier and
that the default INBOX is where most non-binc users and admins expect it
to be (namely "~/Maildir" not "~/IMAPdir/INBOX") which might make it
easier to get help on the qmail lists and for shell users who are
accustomed to stack qmail (when setting up .qmail files, etc).
The only "modifications" to the set up are described in
http://lifewithbincimap.org/index.php/Main/QmailVpopmail.
