hi Ondřej,

Thanks for the answer. That is good news.

I will convey this to the Samba community.

cheers,

Hi Douglas,

there are no plans to remove DLZ yet. If we ever decide to remove this, we will follow https://gitlab.isc.org/isc-projects/bind9/-/wikis/Policy- for-removing-named.conf-options <https://gitlab.isc.org/isc-projects/ bind9/-/wikis/Policy-for-removing-named.conf-options>

This basically means that the earliest date for removal of this feature would be 4+ years in the future, but in this case it is unlikely to happen unless we speak to Samba project and have a clear path for you to go ahead. We are not going to pull the rug from under you.

According to the 9.20.4 release notes,

the DLZ interface itself is going to be scheduled for removal

but I haven't seen more detail about that scheduling (or scheduling of
the scheduling).

Is there a likely time frame for this?

The Samba project uses DLZ. We are well aware of its problems, but it
will not be easy for us to move to dyndb, because we need to make
complicated authorization decisions to match Active Directory semantics.
