Hi Doug,

Both of those messages have already appeared on Bioacoustics-L (unless you've
modified them -- I didn't check the details). Do you still want to post your
message?

Subject: M-Audio Microtrack 24/96, summary of responses
From: "Douglas Gillespie" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
To: <[email protected]>

Following my question a week ago about the M-Audio MicroTrack's low
frequency response, I have received the following information from Gianni
Pavan and Joe Olson. Many thanks to them both. I'm off to the shops. Doug.

From Gianni Pavan...
Here some preliminary results on TSR inputs, phantom off, 96 kHz sampling,
24 bits, latest firmware, signal generator with 50 ohm output

max input before the red LEDs light on (1 kHz sinusoidal):

Level set to MAX with the buttons on the top of the unit:
L 850 mVpp
M 300 mVpp
H 110 mVpp

Level set to MIN:
L 3.3 Vpp

Level set to MAX, plus +27 boost:
L 39 mVpp
M 13 mVpp
H 4 mVpp

Low-end frequency response:
given 0 dB at 50 Hz
  -1.0 dB at 20 Hz
  -2.5 dB at 10 Hz
  -3.0 dB at 8 Hz
  -6.0 dB at 5 Hz
  -8.0 dB at 4 Hz
 -11.0 dB at 3 Hz

High-end frequency response:
flat up to 45 kHz, aliasing-free up to 42.5 kHz (aliased components - if
any - lower than -70 dB)

From Joe Olson ...
Preliminary tests that I ran this evening indicate that the M-Audio
MicroTrack frequency response is down by only approximately 1 dB at 10 Hz,
approx. 12 dB at 2 Hz, and about 23 dB at 1 Hz. It looks flat from 20 Hz to
40 kHz.
A frequency response plot for the M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 is posted here:
www.cetaceanresearch.com/M-Audio_MicroTrack_24-96_Freq_Response.pdf

There is a bit of fluctuation between 10 and 20 Hz due to constraints in
trying to track a peak signal that was moving too fast.

Happy recording!
Joe
