Dear colleagues and friends,
We are excited to invite you to our upcoming online panel discussion titled
“Quiet, Please! Bridging Science and Policy on Underwater Noise”, on 18 October
2024 at 12 PM CEST. This virtual event will delve into the critical issue of
underwater noise pollution and its impact on marine ecosystems.
Organized by JPI Oceans<https://jpi-oceans.eu/en>, the Laboratory of Applied
Bioacoustics of the Technical University of Catalonia, BarcelonaTech (UPC),
IOC-UNESCO, and the OCEANOISE Conference Series, this two-hour event brings
together leading experts to explore the intersection of scientific research and
policymaking in addressing underwater noise.
Why Attend?
Underwater noise pollution poses an escalating threat to marine life. Following
the urgent call for action<https://2023.oceanoise.com/call-for-action> from the
OCEANOISE2023 conference, our panel discussion seeks to bridge the gap between
science and policy to foster impactful solutions.
Meet Our Panellists:

  * Christine Erbe, Curtin University, Australia
  * Tom Akamatsu, Waseda University, Japan
  * Ana Širović, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway
  * Peter Sigray, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden
  * Leila Hatch, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, USA
The session will be moderated by Michel André, Technical University of
Catalonia, BarcelonaTech, Spain.
Together, they will share the latest scientific findings, legislative
advancements, and global perspectives on mitigating underwater noise pollution.
This event builds on insights from the Ocean Decade Research Programme on the
MaritimeAcoustic
Environment<https://oceandecade.org/actions/ocean-decade-research-programme-on-the-maritime-acoustic-environment-un-mae/>,
showcased during the Ocean Decade Week in Barcelona.
The event will begin with a welcome and introduction, followed by short opening
pitches by our panellists designed to stimulate thought-provoking discussions
and will be followed by the main panel discussion. The final segment will be an
audience Q&A, with questions gathered during registration. Take your chance to
