Report for May 5, 2003 (Monday): Like everywhere else in southern Ontario, today at Rondeau birders were greeted with heavy rain early in the morning. When the rain stopped a fair variety of migrants was found, including expected warbler species. However, many birds present yesterday seem to have departed.
The Clay-colored X Chipping Sparrow remains at the Visitor Centre feeders. The Kentucky Warbler has not yet been reported today on the Tulip Tree Trail. An Orange-crowned Warbler was easily seen at the south side of the Park Office parking lot. With the arrival of a warm front tonight, it is quite probable that there will be a major fall-out tomorrow (Tuesday) providing overnight rains are not too heavy. Tomorrow afternoon there is a scheduled hike to the Blenheim sewage lagoons (1:00 p.m.) so we will post an update as to what is there, and if there is any habitat present for shorebirds. (Note: A free permit from the town office is required for entry to this site, but is not necessary if you are part of the scheduled outing).
