This morning on the field immediately west of the park that separates the park from the Cheapside Rd. an adult Ross's Goose was in the midst of about 500 Canada Geese. When walking beside a Canada this dinkly little goose's back bearely reached the belly of the Canada. Canada's have been on this field in numbers for the past couple of days after the field was planted with winter wheat. The field can be viewed from the Cheapside Rd. and is just above the trailer park by the Sandusk Creek. The hawk watch/banding station in the park just south of the passerine banding station was operated Saturday the 20th, The following raptors were recorded: Turkey Vulture 53, Osprey 2, Bald Eagle 2, Northern Harrier 2, Sharp-shinned Hawk 28, Cooper's Hawk 2, Broad-winged Hawk 1, Red-tailed Hawk 12 American Kestrel 7. Merlin 1, Peregrine Falcon 1. This fall over 20 species of warblers have recorded so far in the Park. Currently Swainson's Thrushes and Gray-Cheeks are going through. The hawk watch station is currently not manned from Sunday through Friday. Anyone wanting to man the station is welcomed. The station offers a good view of incoming birds with over a 180o field of view from the south to the north for several 100 metres in both directions. The hawks usually come from the east with the nearest tree line 200 metres to the east. Selkirk Provincial Park is located SW of the village of Selkirk off the Wheeler Rd.
