With strong WSW winds today, birders flocked to Waverly Beach in Fort Erie, Ontario and were rewarded with several sightings of one or more Black-capped Petrels. One was observed in the morning when most of the bad weather occurred but most of the sightings were in the better afternoon weather, perhaps when the winds became more closely aligned with the axis of the lake. The last sighting that I know of was at 4:10 but there were still a few birders there when I left. An adult Pomarine Jaeger and a few Parastic Jaegers were also observed.
DIRECTIONS: >From the Peace Bridge, follow the lake shore about 1/2 mile south of the bridge and turn right just before the fort entrance. Go 1/2 to 1 mile to Helena Road and turn left to Waverly Beach. Follow a short distance to the parking lot at the end of the road and look from the park on the left. Good birding!
