In terms of Mother Nature's fury - 'Izzy was a fizzy' in Southern Ontario. However, for birders around the Great Lakes it was excellent. Locally, a WILSON'S STORM PETREL was seen at Van Wagner's Beach and a little further afield, the north shore of Lake Erie produced some great sightings, including BLACK-CAPPED PETREL, SOOTY TERN, and GREATER SHEARWATER at Crystal Beach, LEAST TERN at Prospect Point Road, plus BLACK-CAPPED PETREL, POMARINE JAEGER, and PARASITIC JAEGER at Waverly Beach near Fort Erie. All of these locations are in upper New York State. Aside from 'hurricane birds', a ROSS'S GOOSE turned up at Selkirk Provincial Park on Monday. It was seen among CANADA GEESE in the field immediately west of the Park. In and around the RBG this past week, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, BLACK & WHITE WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, RED-EYED VIREO and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET were seen on the North Shore Trails, and BROAD-WINGED HAWK, AMERICAN KESTREL, MERLIN, PEREGRINE FALCON, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, NORTHERN HARRIER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, STILT SANDPIPER, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, RED-EYED VIREO, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, and EASTERN WOOD PEWEE were reported from Valley Inn.
