AMHERST I. [page 36, quad E54 & E55]

Bruce Di Labio reported: "On September 24th between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
I birded the east end
(KFN property) of Amherst Island. Overall it was quiet but I did see one
juv. LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, 3 juv. SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, 2 STILT SANDPIPER
and 5 AM. GOLDEN PLOVER. When I first reached the gravel bar no birds were
seen but upon closer inspection an adult male PEREGRINE FALCON was observed
sitting half way out on the bar eating a juv. AM. GOLDEN PLOVER. Later I saw
an immature PEREGRINE FALCON
being harassed by a immature N. HARRIER Also present were 14 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER
and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER."

Bruce Ripley reported on Sept. 15, "12 species of shorebirds including 3
STILT SANDPIPERS, 2 RED KNOTS, 10 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS and 1 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPER. Also on the trail beside the ponds was 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR.


DIRECTIONS: The ferry to Amherst I. leaves from a dock at the western side
of Millhaven. It is reached from the 401 by taking exit 593 south to
Millhaven. Jog right about 100 m. On Hwy 33 to the dock. The ferry costs
$5.00 Cdn return and starts at 6:20 a.m. Then 7:30 and thereafter on the
half hour. The KFN property is on the east side of the Lower Road.

SEELEY'S BAY. [page 37, quads A&B 58]

On Sept. 24, with the North Leeds Birders, Joe Percy saw a NORTHERN GOSHAWK
fly past.

PRINCE EDWARD POINT [page 35, quads G52 & G53]

I went to the Point on Sept. 19. It was very quiet but I did see a flock of
10 WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, 1 MERLIN and a PALM WARBLER.

WOLFE I. [page 36, quads E56&57]

Eleanor Sachs and I did a quick afternoon sweep around the west end of the
Island. Despite strong west winds we did see Hawks: 17 N. HARRIER, 4
RED-TAILED & 7 AM. KESTREL. Shorebirds: 1 L. YELLOWLEGS &, 6 KILLDEER.
Passerines were laying low but we did see over 30 HORNED LARKS in a plowed
field. TREE SWALLOWS were very numerous in flight.




                                            OTHER SIGHTINGS



At Cartwright Point we had 2 rather late SPOTTED SANDPIPERS on the shore of
Deadman Bay on Sept. 26. Warblers seen here this week were: YELLOW-RUMPED,
NASHVILLE, BLACK-THROATED GREEN & BLACK-THROATED BLUE, PARULA, PALM, PINE
and BLACK-AND-WHITE. Also BLUE-HEADED VIREOS. See MapArt Ont. Rd. Atlas
