Nothing to match a Prairie Falcon, but starting with HUMBER BAY EAST
(before the falcon may have gone overhead), with common merganser,
red-breasted merganser, lots of long-tails, goldeneye, a few redheads,
we moved on to the huge raft at the bottom of APPLEBY ROAD IN
BURLINGTON, (a mix of greater scaup, bufflehead, long tail, common
goldeneye, a few redheads), and our family outing today also observed
the following, moving down along the lake:
*AT THE BRIDGE BEHIND TOLLGATE PONDS : 8 dc cormorants, 2 ruddy ducks,
several northern shovelers, other regulars, plus two red-tail hawks
kiting/hovering over the surrounding terrain (it's the first time I
have been able to hold a flying hawk in my scope for any time!);
* AT LA SALLE PARK: 1 pied-billed grebe, a number of coots (4+),
several canvasbacks, a pair of hooded mergansers, plus many lesser
scaup, a few redhead ducks, many common goldeneye, common merganser,
30+ trumpeter swans, a lot of mute swans, and more than a few mallards.
All of this, and the weather was not that bad until later in the
afternoon.
All of these locations are described in Goodwin's book "A Bird Finding
Guide to Ontario".
