A Rufous Hummingbird has been visiting a feeder at Marathon (Thunder Bay
District) since Aug 9. The homeowner Pat Chadwick has been trying to get a
picture of it, but it is very wary.

A Buff-breasted Sandpiper was on the Thunder Bay waterfront, on the Northern
Wood Preservers bark pile, Aug 21 (NE, Brian Moore). The same day there were
about 5 Baird's and 12 Stilt Sandpipers at various locations along the
waterfront.

Good numbers of shorebirds at our small pond in Lasalle on the evening of
Aug. 24.

The highlight is our first sighting of a REDKNOT. This bird was in its full
winter plumage.

Excellent views of LEAST and SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER in side by side views
showing the differences in these birds.

Also seen:

Semipalmated plover
Solitary Sandpiper
Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs
Spotted Sandpiper
Pectoral Sandpiper

The location for these sightings is at Unnamed pond behind Holy Cross School
at Sandwich Parkway and Huron Church Line.

Happy fall birding,

Mark Conlon & Denise Bourgeois
