Hi all!
This is more of a traffic advisory than a bird report, but with
Niagara 'gull' season upon us, I thought I may save members some aggravation
and $. I took a run to Adam Beck to look for the California Gull - easily
seen on the rocks at the left hand corner as previously reported. Not many
Bonaparte's and not much else in my 3/4 stops, except for large numbers of
ducks - mostly scaup above the control gates.
The exit from Hwy 405 to Queenston is blocked and having missed the
signage to take Stanley Ave. I had to make a U turn and pay $3.50 Cdn. for
the pleasure of not crossing the bridge to Dubya's America. There is also a
traffic circle being installed at the top of the hill, so be prepared for
some hold-ups. I hope this mess is all finished for the OFO field trip
Nov. 28.
I did get the Pacific Loon at Fifty Point, as well as a Nashville
Warbler along the pathway to the beach at the foot of Kelson Rd. There were
Common Loons, Horned Grebes and lots of ducks flying about and fishing here
too. On my way back from Niagara I saw a nice close Red-throated Loon at
Fruitland Rd. to make it a "three loon day".
Cheers! Maris
