hi birders,
I birded at the Point Edward Lighthouse today with Dave and Erika Stimac
from Flint, Michigan. There was a very strong and steady North wind but
nothing showed up for hours, but we still held out and suddenly, at around
3:30 a small light "potato with wings" appeared flying west. It landed
pretty far out but we could tell it had a gray back, black top of the head
and yellowish bill, deffinately Ancient Murrelet! After being harrassed by
some gulls it flew east, so we decided to look for it at Canatara beach and
as soon as we got there we saw it land. We got excelent looks for about 20
minutes and could even see it with the naked eye! It then took off and
headed back towards the lighthouse and we lost it.
To get to the Point Edward Lighthouse turn onto Victoria St at the end of
Front St and then turn right at Fort St.
Good birding,
