There was a Lesser Black-backed Gull with loafing Ring-bills on a farmer's
field at the south east corner of 16th Sideroad and the Markham Bypass at 4:30
today.

The weather was pleasant for birding on the river today, which means not a
lot of gulls. Still, there was a fair number of large gulls that were
sitting on the breakwall and just off shore above the Horseshoe Falls.
There was an adult and first-basic ICELAND GULL at the control gates as well
as a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL (plus another all the way across). A couple
hundred yards from the brink of the falls, there were five LESSERS and a
different first-year ICELAND (late afternoon). Below the falls, nobody
reported seeing the Sabine's Gull today or yesterday. On Friday there was a
single report in the late afternoon but several others who looked were
unsuccessful. Either the Sabine's Gull spends most of its time feeding
somewhere else now, or it has gone. There was another LESSER BBG below the
falls.

At the power plants there were adult and first basic ICELAND GULLS, an adult
THAYER'S (?), and a possible adult Nelson's Gull (Herring X Glaucous Gull
hybrid) which flew downriver before allowing definitive study. The third
basic CALIFORNIA GULL was at its usual post - on the concrete at the north
corner of the Robert Moses Power dam. It is often the first gull one spots
when starting from the dam and panning along the shore.

There was little at the Whirlpool in the early afternoon today though a
GLAUCOUS GULL was reported there in the morning. No reports from lower
Queenston.

The female RUFOUS/ALLEN'S hummingbird was still at the feeding station in
Niagara Falls, Ontario where the owners are very welcoming. It comes in to
the feeders on a regular basis and can often be found perching in a nearby
Norway maple or in the bittersweet vine.

Directions to the hummer:
Take the QEW to the Thorold Stone Road exit in Niagara Falls. Now turn left
(east) to Dorchester Road, then right (south) one block to Pettit Avenue.
Take a left here and continue for about 1/2 km to Sherwood Road (directly
across from First Baptist Church on the right hand side). Turn left and
proceed one block to Peach Street to 4579, the second or third house on your
right.

Good birding!
Willie
