With the colder night last night the Selasphorus hummingbird arrived to feed at
the Haines backyard feeders at 0745, somewhat later this morning than on any
previous day. The homeowners continue to welcome all birders who wish to see
this visitor to Niagara Falls from the west.

Directions:
Take the QEW to the Thorold Stone Road exit in Niagara Falls. Now turn left
(east) to Dorchester Road, then right (south) one block to Pettit Avenue. Take
a left here and continue for about 1/2 km to Sherwood Road (directly across
from First Baptist Church on the right hand side). Turn left and proceed one
block to Peach Avenue to 4579, the second or third house on your right.

For the past 12 days, Janice Haines has opened her backyard to some 275-300
birders wishing to observe the Rufous/Allen's Hummingbird coming to her
feeders. Many birders have arrived around 0700, a few as early as 0630.

Janice has asked that effective tomorrow, Saturday, November 27th, and for as
long as the bird remains, birders NOT arrive before 0900 hours. This would
give her time to have breakfast with her husband, clean up the kitchen, clean
and fill the five feeders, and perhaps even make the beds and enjoy a second
cup of morning coffee.

Hopefully everyone will understand, and abide by her wish.

What a Friday AM at Cranberry Marsh and on Hall's Rd., Whitby---1)The
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was a very regular visitor on the north pathway all
morning(day 20), along with White-crowned, Song, White-throated and many
Tree Sparrows.
2) At 11a.m. a SANDHILL CRANE flew low from the north, over the wetland,
then when it reached the willow barrier beach he decided to re-track, flying
back north---great viewings made by 4 of us.
3) Charlie Adey noted12 Common Redpolls at the entry to the south pathway in
mid-AM.
4) At noon Jim Fairchild heard a repeated 3-note song--he said--"PINE
GROSBEAK"--6 of us raced up Hall's Rd. and found a female PG at the top of a
tall tree near the entry to the north pathway. A Golden-crowned Kinglet was
heard.
5) For the 5th successive day a BARRED OWL was seen in an open tree along
the north pathway. It was nmopted by several people in mid-AM.

If you come to see the G-c S next week please consider bringing millet-feed
to spread. Our regular feeder may be out of commission for a few days before
he starts to place feed at the north pathway.

Oh yes, 3 migrating Rough-legged Hawks were recorded, 2 being dark morph.

>From the west, exit 401 at Salem Rd. (in Ajax), south to Bayly, east through
LakeRidge to the first street (Hall's Rd..), south to the second roadside
parking area-- for the south pathway.
>From the east, exit 401 at Brock St., Whitby, south to Victoria, west to
Hall's Rd.
