This bird is truly wonderful, but surely the non-birder camera-buffs DO NOT
NEED TO CLOSE IN SO CLOSE TO THEM. Indeed, should we be traipsing all of
the paths where the owls are found?

I have met so very many wonderful folk over the past week who have come
great distances to binoc and scope these magnificent Great Gray Owls et al.
I am at fault as much as anyone for my daily reports.

Should I shut down? If so let me firstly get out a brief Whitby Dec.30
report. On Dec.29 there were 4 GGOs to the east of Hall's Rd. in the wooded
areas. This AM only 1 was reported, and I will not tell you where!! Where
are the others?-- I feel they are keeping themselves hidden during the
daylight hours. There are lots of voles. The change in weather may be a
factor also.

Pringle Creek, west of the Brock St.S., Whitby bridge, harbours an elegant,
sometimes standing, sometimes strutting, sometimes flying-about SANDHILL
CRANE. It has been there for 4 weeks.

The Hall's Rd. environs include 3 N.Harrier(1 male), several Red-taileds and
Rough-legged Hawks and a Sharp-shinned Hawk. In the Lynde Shores bird-feeder
trail woodlot are a number of Red-winged Blackbirds and Robins. For the
first time in several days I did NOT find a Barred Owl there.
