Rob Dobos and Barb Charlton had the Great Gray Owl at the Dundas Valley Conservation Area again today at 10:00 a.m.. The bird was in the same general area as yesterday however there were many people looking who were not able to locate it. The tip off was mobbing by crows which flushed the owl out and over their heads. The bird flew down toward the orchard and was seen for a time in this area sitting up on a bird box. Someone from the conservation authority said the bird has been in this area for a few days now.
Since it is a large area the suggestion was to park at the end of Lions Club Road in Ancaster. Walk into the Merrick Orchard and travel east on the Monarch Trail . The bird was located on the Monarch Trail at the top of Groundhog Hill about half way between the Merrick Orchard on the west side and Maplewood Centre on the East Side. There are trail maps to the Dundas Valley C.A. at the main trail centre off of Governors Road. Directions: >From the 403 take Mowhawk/Rousseaux Road into Ancaster. Go past Wilson Street (#2) and the road becomes Old Dundas Road. Take Old Dundas Road to Lions Club Road and follow Lions Club Road to the end. Follow directions above. Cheers, Cheryl Edgecombe
