About 10AM 3/4/05 five turkeys were seen from the Navy Island overlook on Grand Island NY. The turkeys appeared to be adults and seemed to be sunning near the water, getting additional warmth from the sun's rays reflecting off the icy water and ice. This is the first season that I know of turkeys ever being reported on Navy Island. Navy Island is a Canada National Historic Site and perhaps a wildlife refuge. Bald Eagles have a nest on Navy Island visible from Buckhorn Island State Park, also on Grand Island NY, and Bald Eagles have been seen often from the Navy Island overlook.

At first, it was in main part of the woods, = where there is a path, but it flew off deeper into the woods, where = there aren't any trails. It was reported today March 4 @ 3:05 PM by (guess who?...Justin Peter! Our man in Rothwell Heights has done it again!) The Solitaire was reportedly singing a soft "whisper" or "shadow" song in an apple tree near #5 Coxford St, at the hydro right-of-way. DIRECTIONS: >From west of Ottawa, take Hwy 417 east to the 417/174 split, proceed on 174 and exit at Blair Rd. From the east, take 174 to the Blair exit as well. Go north on Blair, then right (east) on Ogilvie Rd. Cross Montreal Rd. and continue left (north) on Ogilvie, then take the 1st left (west) onto Naskapi Dr. Follow Naskapi which becomes Rothwell Dr. as you head northwest. Coxford St. is a very short street that runs between Wick Cr. and Wren Rd. Please park on either Wick or Wren to prevent blocking laneways, and please DO NOT ENTER PRIVATE PROPERTY.
