March 19 my father and I observed a sub-adult BALD EAGLE about 5 km north of the Trent-Severn Waterway. It's tail was white except for a rather narrow terminal (sub-terminal?) band. It's head was starting to get white especially around the chin, and it had extensive white mottling below. Nearby, 3.4 km north of the waterway, my father and I observed a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK perched on power lines. Interestingly, the hawk was still there, in almost exactly the same spot, today (March 21). Today at the waterway itself amongst other waterfowl there were 2 HOODED MERGANSERS and 6 TRUMPETER SWANS, one bearing tag 737, the other 642.
At Belvedere Ave. in Parry Sound, we saw a fully adult BALD EAGLE soaring. Directions: The Trent-Severn Waterway can be reached by taking Hwy 400 north of Barrie towards Parry Sound. It is a few km north of where Hwy 12 from Orillia meets Hwy 400.
