Hello Ontbirders
At 3:30 pm today (Oct 19th) there were large numbers of geese and gulls in
the fields immediately north of the Park 'n' Ride off Brophy Road just west
of Hwy 416.

Numbers were as follows;
5000-6000 Canada Geese
This included a small flock of 5 Cackling-type Geese, which were clearly
smaller (but small enough?), shorter necked and lighter above than regular
Canada geese.  Unfortunately it was too windy and distant to properly ID
them.

1 Greater White-fronted Goose

~4000 Mallards
A few Black Ducks and 1 Northern Pintail

~2000 Herring Gulls (mostly adults)
9 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (8 adults, 1 2nd basic)

Several Horned larks were calling in the area.

Good birding,

Gerard Phillips
Merrickville.
