Thanks to all who braved the cool temps, and winds to help keep track of the wide path of raptor movement today! Weather: A "blustery day" for the folks on the tower today, but a great day for the raptors. Temperatures started at 8 degrees C, dropped to 7 degrees before finally hitting a high of 11 degrees the last 2 hours of the afternoon count. Constant North or NMW winds all day blowing between 8 mph and 13 mph. Skies were cloudy all day except the 1pm hour, when we saw a few peaks of sunshine. Raptor Observations: An excellent day for Raptor movement! The 7:00 am hour started great and the numbers built all day long. We finished the day with all varieties tallied except the Osprey and Broad-winged Hawk. (Since we are beyond the general season of movement for these 2 raptors we weren't suprised.) Raptors were moving to the North, at the far shore of the marsh as well as the shoreline and over the tower. The challenge was to count them all! Hightlights of the day were our sitings of: Merlin at 8:59am, Peregrine at 9:01am, and the illusive Golden Eagle (juvenile) at 2:00pm. What a way to end a fantastic day! Non-raptor Observations: With the busy raptor movement we didn't have time to observe much else. First thing in the morning 2 Carolina Wrens were hear singing near the tower. American Crows are really moving thru in large numbers. American Gold Finch continue to move in smaller numbers. Black Birds (mainly Red-Winged) also continue movement. Some Blue Jays noted. Other birds sited today were: Several Norther Flickers, Chimney Swift, Belted King Fisher (still over the trout pond), & Dark Eyed Junco. Predictions: Cloudy, cool, and rain predicted....depending on the type/amount of rain Sunday may still see some movement. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Cindy Isenhoff ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/
