Earlier I had received a tip that the Great Gray owl originally spotted at 1576 Rte 300 was again seen hunting in the fields across the road from said property. Unfortunately I did not see it there either Saturday or Sunday afternoon during the times I checked. The property at 1576 is not too far from the railway tracks so it is quite possible one or two of the owls I saw this weekend hunt along that stretch of road.

This is the owl I saw on Mtee Gagne this afternoon.

Subject: [Ontbirds]2 Great Gray Owls - east of Ottawa

I spotted 2 Great Gray owls late Saturday, Feb. 25th, on Rte. 300 south of Limoges. I spotted the first one on Rte 300 not far from Mtee. Gagnon where the train tracks are located. There was another Great Gray owl perched right by the train tracks just a few yards off Rte 300. I saw both of the Great Gray owls heading for the same lone non-deciduous tree in a field adjoining Rte 300 just slightly west of the tracks. They did some manouevering in the air as they got close to each other and I lost track momentarily as both disappeared behind the tree. I saw at least one of the Great Gray owls perched in the tree. I didn't see the other owl after it went behind the tree so imagine it too would have perched in the same tree (was getting dark around this time).

One of the owls may be the one Peter Campbell reported to OntBirds on Feb. 11th and the other owl may or may not be the one originally reported at 1576 Rte. 300 on January 22nd.

At least one of the Great Gray owls was perched at the edge of a wooded field today, Sunday, Feb. 26th, on Mtee Gagnon not far up from Rte. 300. It was there in the late morning and the afternoon (may have been there all day) offering a great view of it.

Directions from Ottawa:

Take 417 east and get off at exit #79. Soon as you come off #79 turn left (north) on Hwy 5 and head toward the Ultramar gas station. The road just in front of the Ultramar is Rte. 300. Turn right on Rte 300.
