The Great Gray owl on Giroux is still there although it seems to have
changed its habit slightly. Since last Sunday, March 5th, it seems to come
out much later in the day. Today, March 8th, it came out from the wooded
area at the slight bend in the road at around 5:52pm. It eventually perched
in the tree next to the road near the Lafarge quarry gates at the crest of
the road (same tree it was perched in late last Sunday). It then proceeded
to do practically the same thing it did last Sunday. It hovered near the
fence line listening for prey and perching on the various fence posts along
the road. This offered a great view as the posts on that side of the road
are very low. It was a treat to observe all this. As well, it was hunting
in the field on the same side of the road by the time I left shortly after
6:12pm.

Earlier in the week I saw two Snowy Owls (likely same ones seen there all
winter) in the west end of Ottawa. One was perched on a pole along Akins
between Eagleson and Shea and the second one was perched on top of a Hydro
tower/pole along Rushmore between Eagleson and Richmond. The male Snowy owl
on Wall was still being observed up to March 7th. It was very active and
can be seen along Wall from Trim up to the old barn. It was actually
perched on top of that barn for quite some time.

W.H.
Ottawa, Ontario.
Directions from Ottawa:
Take 417 east and continue toward Orleans. Exit right at Trim Road.
Continue on Trim Road up the hill past the Tim Hortons until Innes Road.
Turn left on Innes and go a short distance until Frank Kenny. Turn right on
Frank Kenny and continue past streets like French Hill and Regimbald. The
street after Regimbald is Giroux. Turn left on Giroux and continue up the
road until you see the Lafarge quarry (there are signs). From the top of
this road all the way down to the bend in the road is where I have spotted
the Great Gray owl. For the Snowy Owl, go along Frank Kenny and turn right
on Wall and drive to Trim.
Directions from Ottawa: (west end Snowy owls):
