This morning approximately 11am, I saw 2 American Avocets resting and
feeding in the south end of the middle lagoon near the bar which is
frequented by approximately 25 Caspian Terns. I was about 75 feet from them
and they were unperturbed. There is currently a lot of good shorebird
habitat at the lagoons since the water levels in at least two of them are
quite low..... the most dominant species are Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs
but also a number of other species in smaller numbers. Among the ducks
present were Blue and Green Winged Teal, Buffleheads, Gadwall, Widgeon,
Mallards, Shovelers and a pair of Ruddy Ducks.

The lagoons are located one road north of the transfer site east off Hwy 12
on Concession Rd. 8 [don't get confused as, despite the fact that these
roads are both numbered "8", they are two different roads - one is a
regional paved road, the other a dirt concession road.]

Birding today was rather lacklustre. A MERLIN was seen at Fish Point and a
WHITE-EYED VIREO and BLUE-WINGED WARBLER were banded by PIBO personnel.

Total of species observed in May: 125
