The OFO walk today at the Leslie Street Spit in Toronto saw 35 people
walk through the wet woods and out onto the Spit in misty foggy weather
that gradually changed to sunshine by 2 pm
A total of 70 species were seen, including 13 warbler species.
Highlights included a blue-gray gnatcatcher on a nest, a warbling vireo
finishing its nest construction, 2 philadelphia vireos (one on sailing
club road, the other out near goldfish pond), many willow flycatchers,
an olive-sided flycatcher (near Triangle Pond), and a pair of orchard
orioles ( a female carrying nest material, with a first-year male)
(near Embayment D). Warbler highlights included a singing parula (wet
woods), 2 blackpolls (one at D lookout, the other near goldfish pond),
and 2 female mourning warblers (one just north of D lookout; the other
on the trail towards the bridge.)
The Leslie Street Spit is in Toronto at the base of Leslie Street where
it meets Unwin Avenue. The park is open weekends and holidays.
