Just got back from Carden. Henslow's Sparrows can be heard without much
of a wait. They are singing from more than one location in the same area
about 25 meters or less from the fence. Most of the time they were deep
in the grass but by 7:50 PM there was continuous singing high in the
grass allowing excellent viewing. They were still going after I left at
8:30. The birds would only take breaks from their exposed perches for 2
minutes or less during this time period. They tended to cling to several
grass stalks at once to form a perch instead of sturdier weeds growing
nearby. I would suggest just after sunrise and just before sunset might
be the best times to see Henslow's Sparrows singing here.
Drive 0.2 km north on Wylie Rd. View the west side of the road. Beware
of poison ivy on the roadsides.
