This note is prompted by the posting of a White-winged Crossbill on Carden Plain by Bob and Mary Hartley. Speaking with Ken McIlwrick in Sault Ste. Marie last night I was alerted to an influx of White-winged Crossbills in that area. Cone crops are good there, as they are in other parts of the province, including here in Eastern Omntario. Because these birds will wander in search of good food supplies, regardless of the season, we should be on the lookout for this species as the migration advances.
