Visitors:
First day of the Festival of the Hawks and many visited the site today. We
said goodbye to Mike and Viv from Yorkshire, UK after their two-week stay
in Essex County, Ontario. We thank them for exhibiting true HBMO spirit
and values by helping other visitors to see the birds and learn about
them.
Weather:
Sunny with cloudy period and rain in mid afternoon.
Winds began variable (SW-NW-E-SE) for the morning changing at 11:30 a.m.
to NE.
Raptor Observations:
Small numbers of American Kestrels, Sharp-shinned Hawks, Northern Harriers,
Turkey Vultures, Osprey and Red-Tailed Hawks. Two Merlins woke up visitors
and watchers alike.
Non-raptor Observations:
Monarchs and Green Darner dragonflies abound. Warblers were dropping into
the trees around the Tower early and in big numbers.
Predictions:
North-East winds projected and potential for big numbers.
