Hi all. In a frightful attempt to see these bloody longspurs I spent the
late afternoon scouring the beaches surrounding the airport fence line.
Please note that the internet is WRONG about ferry shedules (WINTER started
officially today!... ya, retarded, i know!) and I was forced to walk the 45
min. to and then from Hanlan's Point.
While I could not rediscover the longspurs, I was able to find a juv.
Red-headed Woodpecker (new for Toronto for me believe it or not!) in some
cottonwoods along the beach just left of where you enter the beach area from
the airport fence line. Continuing along the airport fence to where a bum
seems to have taken up residence, i flushed another (the same?) Sharp-tailed
Sparrow just 50m from where I found one last Thursday.
That short straw-colored grass is SUPER and this area of the island in
general has been amazing for birds this Fall.
If anyone reading this NEEDS to see a Sharp-tailed Sparrow I would suggest
getting your rear over to the beach there cuz the bird(s) are obviously
hanging around... unlike those longspurs... :(
Cheers,
UofGtwitcher.
Please check new WINTER ferry shedule and perhaps even call first so you
don't get screwed!
