At 1 p.m. this afternoon (October 30th) my wife Karen saw a hummingbird at the gardens in Reaume Park in Windsor. This is the latest for either of us. Reaume Park is at the corner of Riverside Drive and Pillette Rd. in Windsor. There are extensive ornamental plantings throughout the park. After the strong winds of Sunday we had hopes for a good raptor flight today--Oct.30--not to be-- only 4 noted over 3 hours. Indeed, there were few passerines. Of note was the loud repetitive 'kek-kek-kek-kek----' calling of a VIRGINIA RAIL right below us in the wetland, around 0930am. 9 WILSON'S SNIPES flew over, and 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS landed in a tree above us in the late morning. Any of you who venture down to the lakefront might keep a lookout for a "sick" Mute Swan--its neck is lying flat, reminiscent of a few years ago when the botulism struck the very many Green-winged Teals.
