Peggi Calder (a passer-by) phoned me late this afternoon to report a white heron-like bird following two horses. I checked it out and as expected it was a Cattle Egret. The owners of the property first noticed the bird on October 29 and their daughter believes she saw it a week or so earlier. The bird can easily be observed from the road but be careful, the shoulder is not very wide.

The colour of the bill and the amount of buff on the plumage seem to indicate that it is not the same Cattle Egret that was seen near Casselman a few weeks ago. Check out photos of both birds here http://jacquesbouvier.blogspot.com

DIRECTIONS:

From Highway 138 turn east on Cty Rd 18 and just before Martintown look for
house # 18360. The small pasture with the Cattle Egret is on the south side of the road.

You can access HWY 138 by taking exit 51 from the 417 or by taking exit 789 from HWY 401.

Good luck!
