High Park Site Description
High Park is a 400 acre wooded park dominated by a Black Oak Savannah located
just west of Downtown Toronto near Keele and Bloor. The park is operated by the
City of Toronto Parks Department.
The Count site (Hawk Hill) is located on a small hillat the north end of the
Grenadier Restaurant parking lot. It is located about 1.5km (1 mile) north of
Lake Ontario, at an elevation of 110 metres above sea level and 38 metres above
Lake Ontario. The site location is N 43 degrees 37 minutes 03.8 seconds, W 79
degrees 28 minutes 56.5 seconds. This station is at the highest point and near
the centre of the park; a steep slope that descends to a large pond is
immediately west of the station. Full time counts have been recorded here since
1993.
The following are partners in our raptor migration monitoring in the Greater
Toronto Region: City of Toronto Parks and Culture Department, Toronto
Ornithological Club, and Local Naturalist's Clubs.

Around 4pm on my way home from Point Pelee and Hillman marsh i found a huge
field full of Canada geese and one lonely White Goose i Photographed it
but now am unsure what it is . It was very small but the head was tinged
like a snow goose yet the Bill looks too me like the bill of a Ross,s anyone
willing to help me identify this bird can email me and i will email them a
picture Also further off behind the Canada Geese was a group of over 80
Tundra Swans. These birds were in the open field at the intersection of county
road 42 and concession 8 in Essex County
Good Luck
And Good Birding

As of 12:20 p.m. there is still a Purple Sandpiper located just east of
Lakeland Centre (2 rockpiles) sitting on the beach. The bird was originally
found this morning around 11:30 a.m. (sorry, can't remember the name of the
finder) down by Hutches.
Also seen out on the lake flying west was a Little Gull about 11:00 a.m..
Distant Jaegers, a few Red-throated Loons and many ducks and scoters there
as well.
Cheers,
Cheryl Edgecombe
Directions : To reach Van Wagner's Road, take the Centennial Parkway exit
from the QEW and proceed north to Van Wagner's Road. The Lakeland Centre
Tower is one to two hundred metres west of Hutch's Restaurant which is west
of Centennial.
