The male Harlequin Duck was still present at Deschenes Rapids across
from Ottawa's Brittannia boat club at mid-morning today.
It spent some time on the Quebec side then later flew south-east over
the rough part of the rapids towards Ontario. I could see birders on
the Ottawa side but I am not sure they could see it. Vision was poor.
directions:
In Ottawa, Island Park Dr. North to Champlain Bridge. Turn left
immediately after the bridge and drive on Aylmer Rd until Vanier Rd.
At the traffic lights, turn left on Vanier and drive south towards the
end of the road and Ottawa River. Park and set your binoculars or your
scopes.
Walking either east or west on the bike path can be rewarding in
views and birds.

Here are the directions for OFO members and friends. Trip starts at
9:00 a.m. on Sunday, 3 December 2006 at the Sir Adam Beck Generating
Station overlook on the Niagara Parkway south of the
Queenston-Lewiston Bridge. From QEW take Highway 405 towards USA and
exit at Stanley Avenue. YOU MUST EXIT HWY 405 AT STANLEY AVENUE. Turn
left, crossing over Hwy 405, then immediately right onto Portage Road
which parallels Hwy 405 for 3 km. At traffic circle at Brock Monument
take first exit on right, signed to "The Falls". This is the Niagara
Parkway. Follow it for 1.8 km to Sir Adam Beck overlook on the left.
