Good "winter" birds seen today: Purple Sandpiper at end of pier at
Turkey Point ; Turkey Vulture, Bald Eagle and Fox Sparrow at Long
   Point  Provincial Pk.; Ruffed Grouse at Spooky Hollow near Normandale;
8 Pied-billed Grebes including 2 immatures at Port Rowan; 4 icterid
species at Long Point; Swamp Sparrow at Big Creek on Conc. 1A.
Due to the strong cold westerlies, land birding was poor. But a
spectacle comparable to the late Spring migratory show took place on
the cornfields, where over 100 Sandhill Cranes and thousands of Tundra
   Swans and Canada Geese fed.
Conc. # 6 just north of Fisherville produced 4 Short-eared Owls
   at dusk.

Hi Everyone
Birded around west of Ottawa today. Lots of good birding around the
Moodie Drive ponds and Trail Road Landfill Site. With the recent snow cover
there was large concentration of geese at the Moodie Drive Ponds with 1
Cackling, 1 Gr. White-fronted and 1 Snow (Blue morph) Goose . At the Trail
Road Landfill Site there was a nice selection of gulls including 1 Lesser
Black-backed, 2 Iceland, 3 Glaucous and 1500+ Great Black-backed Gulls.
Along Huntmar Road near Richardson Side Road an immature Golden Eagle flew
over and while an adult Bald Eagle was observed soaring over the village of
Britannia.
                                                good birding
                                                Bruce
Directions: From Ottawa take Hwy 417 west to Moodie Dr. and follow
Moodie south approx 10 km. to Trail Road. Turn left on Trail Road. The
landfill site is on your left. Remember, there is no access to the Trail
Road Landfill Site. You have to bird from Trail Road. The Moodie Drive ponds
are between Trail Road and Barnsdale Road on the east side along Moodie
Drive.
